The film tells the story of Liu Qiang, a farmer from Nanzhangpo Village, who participates in a dating show to help sell his village’s cherries. There, he meets Zhang Linjie, the only contestant (No. 9) who keeps her light on for him—a graduate student with a vastly different background. Together, the two young people join forces to contribute to the construction of their new rural community, setting off a series of heartfelt and transformative events.
