Chinese Historical and Cultural Documentary
"In Search of Shaanxi Merchants" is a three-episode historical and cultural documentary jointly produced by the Management Committee of Jinghe New City, Xixian New Area, Shaanxi Province, and a CCTV production team. It premiered on CCTV-10's "Exploration · Discovery" from March 27 to 29, 2016.
The documentary systematically traces the historical trajectory of the Shaanxi merchant group in driving economic development in western China over 500 years during the Ming and Qing dynasties, through visits to 15 provinces and regions. It delves into the spiritual core of "honesty, integrity, loyalty, and courage" that defined the Shaanxi merchants.
Using techniques such as historical reenactments, the documentary vividly showcases the cultural achievements of Shaanxi merchants in areas like the Tea-Horse Road and trade in Yangzhou. Its broadcast sparked academic discussions on certain historical narratives.
